Gallops is Dead

Sad news this morning as GALLOPS have announced they've split.
Details were unclear last week when the Wrexham 4 piece suddenly withdrew from their remaining tour dates with And So I Watch You From Afar. And it seems now that their show in Paris last week was to be their last.
The band released an EP and a 7" before last year's critically acclaimed debut full length 'Yours Sincerely Dr. Hardcore'. You can stream/download all of them from the band's bandcamp.

They've also put up a farewell T-Shirt
Here is the official statement from the band:

"Hello Earth,

We are sad to announce that as of now Gallops is dead. We've been to some really great places over the last 6 years and met some amazing people but Gallops as we know it has unfortunately run it's course.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported us along the way.

Watch this space for future projects from members of the band. Music will continue, Gallops will not.

Love you all,

Mark, Paul, Dave, Brad

and here is a reminder of the critical praise for their first, and sadly last album:

"One of 2012’s most resounding debuts" BBC
“A mammoth of a debut album – Album Of The Month” Artrocker
"A grand and seemingly natural musical journey that is both challenging, rewarding and overwhelmingly awe-inspiring" Musical Mathematics
"A high tempo blaze of piston-punch beats, stabbing guitar and flickering electronics that leave little time for recovery" Loud & Quiet
“An album packed with intelligence and fearless musical boundary pushing” Crack
"a proggy sense of mystery and theatricality... Ultimately, the results expand math-rock’s possibilities" The Skinny
“The thing that makes ‘Yours Sincerely, Dr Hardcore’ so soul destroying is this: it’s brilliant" TLOBF
“Gallops customarily serve up instrumental soundscapes that match metallic brawn with a serrated electronic edge.... attending to both cerebral and dancefloor pleasures” MOJO
"an impressively sprawling album" The Quietus
"Instrumental clever-clogging for intellectual headbangers" Q
"An hypnotic energetic instrumental album that'll appeal to rock and dance fans alike" Clash
"Hardcore riffs, demented synths and a jerky groove from Wrexham's answer to Battles"  The Times

RIP GALLOPS  2007-2013

James Dow said of the inspiration and aims behind the record.

The EP is available to pre-order on limited edition custom made packaging by ACDSleeve and designed by London design studio Telegramme.
It's also available for a limited time only with a limited edition T-Shirt bundle available in all sizes.

“As a sonic architect, Batz proves to be something close to a Genius ... Wonderful”
The Sunday Times

Drowned In Sound

“An intelligent, delicate, crisp yet hazy and tentatively emotional record”
Fake DIY

Interview Magazine

“Staggeringly good narcoleptic pop”

“a rich sonic brew, exploring new textures and arrangements”
 The Quietus

"Brims with a sense of fun and dopey-eyed optimism that sounds like a state of reality we wouldn’t mind to dwell in"

Introducing... Portasound - The Second Renaissance

Meet our latest signing Portasound. Who's debut EP 'The Second Renaissance' is coming out May 14th.

The Second Renaissance begins with a cataclysm of such magnitude it propels the entire civilisation into a gargantuas battle between light and dark forces.

Thus follows the rebellion, and ultimately... the birth of the hero.

As you might have gathered Portasound don’t do things by halves. Fusing soaring melodies, driving rhythms and wonky riffs, they’ve created a genre bending soundtrack of instrumental electronica to accompany their own fictional narrative. Brace yourselves for a high-speed 22 minute sonic journey atop a giant synth with the legs of a horse and head of a Minotaur!

Having played shows with the likes of Metronomy, The XX, Friendly Fires and Three Trapped Tigers, the band are about ready to unleash their debut EP 'The Second Renaissance' on May 14th 2012.

Watch the video for the opener Dreadnought here:

Dreadnought is also on soundcloud:

The conceptual artwork has been created by Robert Evans of Telegramme Studio and hints at hieroglyph style images that document the four parts to the story, each track with its own unique image.
It is available on limited edition handmade cut-cover slipcases by the world’s greatest custom packaging designer, ACDSleeve.
It's also available as a CD/T-Shirt Bundle. Check the store for deets!
EP tracklisting:

I. Dreadnought
II. Messerschmitt
